To understand and anticipate transportation needs, local authorities need reliable and regular data. Household travel surveys are the most commonly used method for collecting this data. However,
They are costly and only conducted every 10 years. The mobility barometer is a simplified survey that can be administered more regularly to provide up-to-date insights on travel habits.
Investigation
The mobility barometer is based on a structured and flexible survey methodology and provides a clear view of modal shares. It collects data from a representative sample of the population, surveyed about their trips from the previous day. Administered to one or two people per household at most, it can be conducted by phone or through a web questionnaire. The barometer can be annual or repeated over a 3-year period.
The results feed into key planning documents such as SCoTs, PCAETs, or various mobility plans.
