Roadside Surveys
Precisely understand your users’ travel patterns
Roadside surveys, such as origin-destination surveys, are essential for understanding traffic flows and user travel behavior. The data collected during these surveys is used to better plan and manage infrastructure, improve safety, and optimize road traffic.
These surveys help anticipate mobility needs and assess the impact of transport policies, ensuring efficient road network management.
License Plate Survey
Origin-destination roadside surveys help identify the routes taken by road users and determine departure and arrival points within the studied perimeter.
The traffic data collected through this type of survey enables the generation of OD matrices, spider graphs, and traffic volumes per branch at intersections, helping identify traffic trends and understand trip generators and attractors.
Survey duration and frequency can be adjusted from a few hours to several weeks to ensure reliable and representative data, including hourly and daily averages, peak periods, weekends, and holidays.
Survey results are delivered in Excel format and/or accessible via our mapping platform MyGIS

surveys
ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) cameras enable automated license plate reading (and vehicle classification). These advanced systems capture and analyze license plates to track vehicle journeys. Strategically placed cameras can determine departure and arrival points and the routes taken by users.
ALYCE operates a large fleet of ANPR cameras selected for their precision and adaptability, even in complex environments like highways. Combined with our AI, these cameras also allow for fine vehicle classification. Our analysts then process the collected data to match vehicle passages and determine OD pairs and routes.

surveys
OD surveys can also be conducted manually by surveyors at strategic locations recording license plates and vehicle categories using voice recorders.
ALYCE has a team of trained, experienced field staff capable of accurate manual license plate collection. Our analysts process the data as they would for ANPR-based surveys: matching entries and exits to identify OD pairs and routes.
This manual method is particularly useful for short timeframes or in locations where camera deployment is impractical.

Interview Surveys
OD surveys by interview use a short, targeted questionnaire to identify a user’s trip origin and destination. They enable the creation of OD matrices based on the desired geographic level (commune, IRIS zone, street…), while also collecting qualitative data: reason for travel, frequency, transportation habits, etc.

surveys
Roadside interview surveys involve placing interviewers at specific locations to directly question drivers about their trips and travel purposes. Questions cover origin, destination, reason for travel, and routes taken.
ALYCE’s experienced team of trained interviewers ensures safe and efficient data collection. The data is then analyzed by our analysts to interpret traffic flows and travel behavior.
This method is useful for collecting qualitative insights from users, essential for improving road infrastructure and traffic management.
